NZIM Certificate in Small Business Management

Credit transfers

Students who consider that they may have covered the syllabus requirements of a particular paper by successfully completing other paper(s) or courses of study may apply to NZIM for a credit transfer.

Credit transfer arrangements may be made between NZIM and other training providers or relating to particular programmes. Students may also apply with evidence of courses they have completed.

There is a fee charged for this service. Notification of the success or otherwise of an application will be by letter directly to the applicant.

Credit transfers from Certificate in Management

Students who have completed the NZIM Certificate in Management may cross credit four papers to the NZIM Certificate in Small Business Management. At all times the core requirements of both papers must be met.

A student will not be issued with a Statement of Achievement for papers gained by transfer.

There is no limit to the number of credit transfers that can be granted.

The following unit standards are accepted as credits into the appropriate NZIM papers. Please note that NZQA does not permit credit transfers INTO unit standards.

Exemption

Each exemption reduces the number of papers a student needs to complete.

Students gaining a B average or better in papers 851, 852, 855, and 853 will receive, on application, exemption from 115 Small Business Management from the NZIM Diploma in Management and the NZ Diploma in Business.

Students gaining a B average or better in the complete Certificate (eight papers) will receive, on application, exemption from 115 Small Business Management and one further unspecified paper from the NZIM Diploma in Management and the NZ Diploma in Business.Students who have completed a B average or better in the eight papers of the Certificate can apply for an additional unspecified paper credit transfer towards the NZIM Diploma in Management and New Zealand Diploma in Business. An unspecified credit transfer reduces the number of papers required for the Diploma, but you cannot substitute another diploma paper for it.

Students may obtain a maximum of two papers by way of credit transfer.

Exclusions

Marketing processes are now incorporated into the core papers, so 802 Introduction to Marketing will no longer be accepted as an optional paper or a cross credit for students completing the revised papers 851, 852, 853 and 855.

Students who have completed 810 Introduction to Law may credit that paper in place of 854 Law and Small Business. Please note that these two papers are mutually exclusive, and only one or other of the papers will gain credit into NZIM qualifications.

Recognition of current competence

You can apply for credit into any paper through recognition of current competence. You need to supply evidence that you have met the assessment requirements of the paper for which you wish to gain credit. This might be through other qualifications or evidence of workplace competence.
