2nd Placed - Vannesa Davison

2nd place - Vannesa Davison (TOPNZ student) - "An investigation into how communication with parents can be improved at Auckland Childcare Centre". As the parent of a child at the centre herself, Vannesa looked at ways in which communication between parents and centre staff regarding childrens' needs and progress could be improved. She found that there was a high degree of satisfaction with existing communication strategies and was able to make recommendations building on existing strengths within the Centre.

3rd Placed - Levonne Bell

3rd place - Levonne Bell (TOPNZ student) - "What inspires me? The motivation of staff in a small business in the automnotive industry: A case study". What motivates people to turn up and work smart in a small company that can't offer some of the career enhancements common in large companies? Do staff work more for the money than anything else? Levonne's study showed that there were a number of tools available that could lead to improved performance without either exploiting the goodwill of the staff or costing the company a small fortune.

4th Placed - RuaSan

This team carried out research into the market demand among farmers in both North and South Islands for Norsewear's "traditional" product offerings of woollen jerseys, woollen sockes, and oilskin coats. They found that, while the brand itself was well-kown, only socks were specifically identified by respondents as being purchased for the brand. This led to a range of recommendations for the company to promote tha brand rather than just specific product lines. They also found a substantial number of "lifestylers" in the "rural" marketplace who were interested in some of the more "high-tech" and fashionable garments that Norsewear are now producing.

From left they are Beverley Dixon and Jenny Gardner
