NZIM Management Model Key Attribute 1: Capable Management

1.     Broad Management Skill

The study and understanding of management theory and practice together with having worked in different management roles and situations to gain practical experience.

2.      Specialty Expertise

The acquisition of a niche area of knowledge or expertise that clearly defines the value of the person to their organisation.  For example, Accountant, Production Manager etc.

3.      Understand Organisation Operation

Having a good understanding of the processes that make up the organisation’s operation so that the manager can understand how to best to assist the organisation achieve its objectives.

4.      Aware of External Factors

This is having an understanding of Customers, Competitors, Industry, World Trends etc to be able to assess opportunities and the need for change.

5.      Knowledge of General Business Disciplines

The understanding of wider disciplines than just the manager’s own one. e.g. Finance, Marketing, Sales, Operations etc to enable the manager to communicate and work effectively with other managers in the organisation.

6.      Personal Management Skill

The skills that enable personal effectiveness and influence, such as presentations, report writing, time management, assertiveness, planning, and problem solving
